More info regarding Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon has recently surfaced, so for anyone thinking that this was an elaborate April fool’s hoax – you may now breathe a sigh of relief.
What we now understand about Ubisoft’s Far Cry 3 spin-off is that it will be released as a standalone XBLA game, therefore not requiring a copy of Far Cry 3 to play it.
Blood Dragon is being hotly tipped for a May 1 release, with no mention of multiplayer features, possibly hinting at a single-player campaign.
Screenshots and artwork display a bizarre ‘retro sci-fi’ vision of the future, very reminiscent of Duke Nukem 3D. Reports suggest that the game’s new protagonist; the eye-patched Sargent Rex Colt will be voiced by actor Michael Biehn, of epic 80’s action movies such as The Terminator and Aliens.
And to top it all off, Australian electronica duo Power Glove have distributed three tracks on SoundCloud, each one displaying the Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon artwork – they’re sounding very retro in a funky-futuristic kind of way!
The official statement reads:
“Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon is THE Kick-Ass Cyber Shooter taking place on a bizarre open-world island crawling with evil. Welcome to an 80’s VHS vision of the future. The year is 2007 and you are Sargent Rex Colt, a Mark IV Cyber Commando who’s fighting against a cyborg army gone rogue. Your mission: get the girl, kill the baddies, and save the world. Experience every cliché of a VHS era vision of a nuclear future, where cyborgs, blood dragons, mutants, and Michael Biehn (Terminator, Aliens, Navy Seals) collide. Playing Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon doesn’t require a copy of Far Cry 3.”
